Alternative for Germany won 44.2% of the preliminary vote in Saxony-Anhalt, more than doubling its share from 2021 and finishing well ahead of the governing Christian Democrats. The result was a record for the far-right party, but it fell short of a legislative majority. Coalition negotiations will determine the state’s next government.

Ash from Anak Krakatau closed eight airports in western Indonesia, including Jakarta’s main international hub. Authorities reported 1,558 canceled flights affecting about 170,000 passengers by Sunday evening. Some schools also moved classes online because of the ash.
