Philippine ferry fire death toll reaches 35

Rescuers recovered 30 bodies from the burned MV June Aster, bringing the confirmed toll from the September 9 passenger-ferry fire to at least 35. Authorities reported 43 survivors among the 132 people aboard. More than 50 people remained missing.

Diesel tops $6 as monthly inflation quickens

U.S. consumer prices rose 0.4% in August from July, after a 0.1% monthly increase in July. Prices were 3.4% higher than a year earlier, unchanged from the previous annual reading. The national average diesel price separately exceeded $6 a gallon, a nominal record, amid fuel-supply disruptions caused by the Iran war.
